stupid cute idiots in dokis
[It's only with much practice that Gumball has learned to multitask. It isn't often enough that he's left in peace while he's here in his kitchen, whipping up one thing or another while attendants and consultants and guards and all manner of subjects come and go with all manner of matters on their hands. He's learned to prioritize, to strike a balance between his passion and his duties, to learn which should require immediate attention and which he can make wait. It's just how he's decided to do things, and sometimes, his baking just comes first.
Today, though, requires a different balance, because the presence perched next to him on the counter actually quite has his attention. Given, as most of her stories go, Fionna's various conversation topics including a pulse-pounding recount of the ogre she and Cake took down on their way to the Goblin Kingdom last week give him a little leeway attention-wise. And even then, he's finding himself absorbing just about every word.
Well, mostly. It's when he finds himself fussing with the candy decoration placement on one of his cookie mermaids that his attention wanders off, if only for the moment.]

Per usual, it's pretty much perfect.]

[His expression finally calms, although shortly thereafter he perks back up when his timer goes off. Gently tossing the rest of the piece in his mouth, Gumball retrieves his mitts and goes over to pull out the last of the cookie trays and turn off the oven.]
Well, that's the last of them.

I dunno man, I definitely think you could have made at least twice as many as this if you really tried.
[ which she is sure they both knew, but, yanno. SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA POINT OUT THE OBVIOUS. ]
no subject
[You're not riling him back up again, Fionna. Nope. He's just going to go back about his business.]
no subject
[ she's just. going to not point out how he's been baking for quite some time now. hours, some would say. ]
no subject
Are you trying to challenge me?
[His tone is even, but there's still amusement in his voice.]
no subject
[ finishes off the rest of her cookie and grabs another of a different kind before hopping on the counter yet again. ]

[Satisfied that all the cookies are in their rightful places for their respective cooling stages, Gumball returns to his decorating, picking back up his icing bag and starting on a new cookie.]
no subject
Don't mess up.
no subject
[If he could look away, he'd probably shoot her one of his dashing, princely smiles. But he daren't, if only to prove a point. He's gotta concentrate SUPER hard now, just because of that.]

sticks it out towards him, when he pauses in his work since she's not actively trying to get him to goof or anything like that. ]
Hey, do this one next.

[ a pause, reconsidering ] Wait, no, I want a sword! A sword and a surprise.
no subject
[He finishes up a few more lines on the cookie already in front of him, then scoots it over to Fionna.]
Want to try your hand at candy decorations, in the meantime?
no subject
[ gumball don't let her at the candy decorations she's going to eat one for like every three she puts down. ]
no subject
I thought you might.
no subject
[ reaches over everything for the collection of little candies he's got for decorations and pulls them over so she can use them. immediately pops a sugar crystal into her mouth. ]
no subject
I'm sure.

and as she's busy carefully crafting a cute little face onto the cookie she selects, there's just one more candy down. and just another following that. no biggie. the fourth isn't anything to worry over either, no sir. ]
no subject
Of course, he might be a little surprised once he finishes frosting and goes to add the finishing touches to find the bowls of assorted pieces less full than when he last saw them, but shh. Let him go on in ignorance for now.]

Ta-da!
[That's when he turns and holds up his finished cookie, a lovely little mermaid with a blue tail and a suspiciously-familiar lock of blonde hair on one side, complete with a drawn-on sword. He's even put in bits of pale yellow icing for lighting effects as to give the impression that even on a two-dimensional canvas, it's glowing and hovering in front of her outstretched cookie hands.]
Can you guess who it is?
no subject
[ she almost drops the thing she's working on to make gimme hands at it, shiny-eyed and giddy (not to mention she seems unable to stop herself from giggling some). instead she catches herself before that happens and turns what she's got around, and its a smiling face in pink with hair of coloured sugar. ]
I thought this one was kind of shaped like your head. It's not really done yet though.
[ it might never be; she's pretty sure she accidentally ate the candies she was going to use as his eyebrows. ]
