[It's only with much practice that Gumball has learned to multitask. It isn't often enough that he's left in peace while he's here in his kitchen, whipping up one thing or another while attendants and consultants and guards and all manner of subjects come and go with all manner of matters on their hands. He's learned to prioritize, to strike a balance between his passion and his duties, to learn which should require immediate attention and which he can make wait. It's just how he's decided to do things, and sometimes, his baking just comes first.

Today, though, requires a different balance, because the presence perched next to him on the counter actually quite has his attention. Given, as most of her stories go, Fionna's various conversation topics including a pulse-pounding recount of the ogre she and Cake took down on their way to the Goblin Kingdom last week give him a little leeway attention-wise. And even then, he's finding himself absorbing just about every word.

Well, mostly. It's when he finds himself fussing with the candy decoration placement on one of his cookie mermaids that his attention wanders off, if only for the moment.]

[ lowers her hand again, sort of twitching her nose because its got post-sneeze itches, but its nothing severe enough to scratch. ]

[bumgall]

[He almost reaches out for her hand a third time, but something makes him refrain. He doesn't drop his own either, though, only lowers them slightly.]

How does that hand feel? Better?

[swordstress]

What do you think?

[ waggles her fingers at him ]

[bumgall]

[Gumball leans in, squinting at the offered digits slightly.]

They still look a bit pink to me. But if it doesn't hurt, that's what matters, right?

[swordstress]

[ taps his forehead with a single finger when he leans in. ]

I was saying that 'cause it feels fine, dude. Just like my other hand.

[bumgall]

Ah- [He flinches a tiny bit at that, mostly out of surprise, but straightens without complaint. He might rub the spot out of habit rather than actual pain or discomfort simply on principle, but he's still got salve on his hand, and frankly, he wouldn't like to get any more on him.]

Well, if you insist. I know you're tough, Fionna. But there's no shame in relieving pain, even when it's bearable.

[swordstress]

Yeah, but it's all good. Seriously. I can barely even tell they ever were hurt!

[ shifts in the chair so she's sitting cross-legged despite that is not really how chairs at kitchen tables are meant to be sat in. its 2comfy, yo. ]

[bumgall]

[Reaching over, he grabs a hand towel and begins wiping his fingers clean, a small smile across his lips. There's a soft ache of disappointment in his chest, and it worries him, but he says, does, and lets on nothing about it. It's a frightening enough symptom on its own, without thinking too hard about it.]

Perfect.

[swordstress]

[ holds onto her ankles and leans forward as if she's actually talking conspiratorially. ]

You know what we should do now?

[bumgall]

[Gumball looks up, eager to put his mind on to something else.]

What's that?

[swordstress]

Slamdunk that cookie right into our faces.

... And also un-prank your decorations. [ gu...ilty smile... :') ]

[bumgall]

Un-prank my... [He gets up suddenly, eyes wide and genuinely panicked, and zooms right back over to the counter, as if expecting to find them suddenly catching on fire.

He takes his cookies very seriously, okay.]

[swordstress]

[ laughs harder than she probably should have and youth flips over the table back over to gumball. ]

Don't worry, I got this.

[ if he'll let her close enough, she'll switch back the two tiny decorations she'd flipped before. ]

[bumgall]

[Good luck, because he's leaning over the counter and inspecting his confections with a critical, worried eye, expression one of mild horror. After all, nothing looks wrong to him... but only visibly.]

Oh my Gob, what did you do to them?

[swordstress]

[ just trying to duck around his arms. she's short and agile, she can totally get around this. except that his freaking out is just making her laugh more and its hard to do anything when her sides are starting to hurt. ]

[bumgall]

[He's not- okay, yeah, he really is freaking out at this point.]

Are they poisoned? Or cursed?

[swordstress]

[ by now she's clutching at her sides, but she's trying to get it together enough to help calm him down. ]

It's just the decorations, dude. I switched two of them.

[bumgall]

[Congrats, Fionna. You just made his brain short-circuit a little.]

... that's all?

[swordstress]

Look at the red and blue ones right there.

[ points to them now that she can get close enough. ]

[bumgall]

[He just stares blankly for a bit.]

Oh.

[And again, silence. But only temporarily.]

Goodness, Fionna. You gave me quite the scare.

[swordstress]

Heheheh, I can tell.

[ taps the cookie she'd burned herself on earlier and, finding it now cooled down enough, yanks it up off the rack. ]

[bumgall]

[Gumball exhales deeply, and glances wearily at her.]

If you do that again, I might have to consider revoking your kitchen visitation privileges.

[swordstress]

[ laughs and breaks off a piece of the cookie, holding it up for him. ]

Like I would try the same joke twice.

[bumgall]

[His brows furrow in an expression that fails to really be anywhere near threatening, if that's what he was trying for. Regardless, he takes the cookie piece.]

Good.

[swordstress]

[ grins at him and, even though she already ripped a limb off the cookie, takes a big ol bite right out of his head. ]
